Today, diving deeper into my 30’s, I celebrate another Birthday. I personally love Birthdays and am thankful for each and every one, no matter how high that number gets. I have everything that a person could ask for. Most importantly I have my health as well as the ability to help others.
One of the greatest gifts I believe we are given as we age is the gift of hindsight. The ability to reflect back on our lives and our journey. I would be remiss not to take an opportunity to offer advice to those seeking it based on my experience. Growing up with my Grandfather and Great-Grandmother I received some heavy doses of perspective. One thing I was always taught was to listen to those who had been down the path before me. Most of the time it turned out being the best advice I never took. Some times, trusting my gut led to a positive outcome or in some cases a very hard life lesson. Regardless we all have such a unique story to tell. To me, that is exciting. I love a good story and even more so a story that teaches a lesson.
I have to laugh at some of the advice I have received over the years. Some of it was so simple yet so sincere. At the time, I don’t think I realized how true it was! I remember something my Grandfather used to say to me quite often. “Justin, it will get better before your married.” After years of scraped knees, a broken bone, a bad test score and teenage heartache, boy was he right!
As I reflect back on my life today I am ever more appreciative of the words of advice I have received and every helping hand along the way. No matter how small or insignificant it may have seemed at the time.
I have been working on a project and would love some feedback. If you have advice that you could give to your younger self, regardless of age, what would that be?
